Global enterprises and critical infrastructure operators are moving to close a long‑standing security gap at the front desk: verifying that the person who walks in is who they claim to be.

HID, Soloinsight and Connected Technology Solutions (CTS) have introduced an integrated self‑service visitor check‑in kiosk that combines HID’s hardware‑based document authentication and facial recognition with Soloinsight’s CloudGate visitor management and physical identity and access management (PIAM) platform.

The solution is designed to verify visitor identities before issuing access credentials while creating a consistent, auditable visitor management process for hospitals, data centres, offices and logistics hubs.

From name entry to identity verification

Many facilities manage hundreds of contractors, vendors and visitors daily, yet most check‑in processes verify little more than a name typed into a tablet or a photo ID that receptionists cannot authenticate.

In regulated or high‑risk environments, that unverified access creates exposure to unauthorized entry, gaps in audit trails during incidents and compliance failures when organisations cannot prove who was on site and when.

By combining document authentication, facial verification and visitor management into a single kiosk, the partners aim to help security teams streamline processing, reduce manual identity checks and maintain detailed records for compliance and investigations.

How the workflow operates

A host pre‑registers their visitor in CloudGate, which sends an email invitation with a QR code. At the kiosk, the visitor scans the QR code, then verifies their identity through the HID ATOM document scanner, which reads passports, driver’s licences and mobile IDs.

The HID U.ARE.U Face Module runs live face verification and rejects any scan that does not match the identity document or is not a live face. CloudGate confirms check‑in, the kiosk prints a visitor pass on the spot and the host is notified; returning visitors can also be granted permission to check in without a host where appropriate.

Following verification, CloudGate records each transaction in a centralised visitor record, providing security teams with a complete history of visitor activity to support investigations, reporting and regulatory compliance.

Differentiators for security and compliance

The kiosk improves identity assurance by using HID ATOM to capture encoded data strips, barcodes and RFID or NFC chips on credentials, while detecting document integrity features and producing consistent scans regardless of lighting—addressing limitations of phone cameras that struggle with embedded security features and carry higher risks of fake IDs and misreads.

A single HID ATOM reader accepts QR codes, passports, driver’s licences and mobile IDs, allowing visitors to move through check‑in without switching devices or lanes. CloudGate produces audit‑ready evidence across more than 40 frameworks including HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, helping organisations maintain documentation that supports ongoing compliance and audits.

The solution is engineered and fabricated at CTS’s Wisconsin headquarters, backed by a three‑year warranty, dedicated technical support, white‑glove installation and full ADA compliance, and extends existing HID deployments through native support for HID Signo readers and mobile credentials.
