Equinix has officially opened HK6, its sixth International Business Exchange (IBX) data centre in Hong Kong, in a move designed to cement the city’s position as a regional hub for artificial intelligence and cross-border technology development.
The purpose-built facility, backed by an initial investment of US$124 million, is equipped with liquid-cooling technology to handle the power density and thermal demands of modern AI workloads. Phase one delivers 1,000 cabinets, with total capacity set to reach 3,550 cabinets upon full build-out.

HK6 is directly interconnected with the Hong Kong–Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HSITP), enabling secure, low-latency access for tenants and start-ups across the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

Vincent Ma, chief executive officer of HSITP, said: “We are pleased to see the launch of Equinix’s HK6 data center in Hong Kong, adding momentum to the city’s digital infrastructure. HSITP is forging ahead to develop into a world-class innovation and technology hub which connects the Mainland and the rest of the world.”
The design is intended to foster co-development opportunities and accelerate research and development by combining dense interconnection with access to ecosystems on both sides of the border.
A key feature of the new facility is the AI Discovery Hub, developed in collaboration with HPE and NVIDIA. The hub provides an open testing environment where enterprises and start-ups can build, test, validate and scale AI applications across neutral hybrid and multicloud environments. By allowing organisations to assess workflow performance under real-world conditions before committing to full deployment, the hub aims to de-risk AI investment and reduce time to market.

Equinix's Hong Kong managing director, Joanne Hon, commented that: "Combining the seamless GBA connectivity, a world-class AI testing environment, and AI-ready and interconnection-rich infrastructure, HK6 provides a cohesive foundation for secure data mobility and high-performance AI, enabling businesses to scale AI applications with confidence and supporting Hong Kong's vision to become a leading International Innovation and Technology (I&T) Hub.”
HK6 also integrates Equinix Fabric, enabling direct interconnection between distributed infrastructure and global ecosystems. Fabric Intelligence adds AI-driven observability and automated connectivity management, reducing manual effort and enabling proactive network optimisation as workloads evolve.
The facility joins a tightly clustered campus in Tsuen Wan that includes HK1, HK2, HK3 and HK6, anchored by the Equinix Internet Exchange and Equinix Internet Access. This concentration is designed to support high-speed, low-latency interconnection among networks, cloud providers, AI service providers and enterprises, while meeting data sovereignty requirements.
Sustainability has been built into the design. HK6 maintains 100 per cent renewable energy coverage, in line with Equinix’s global pledge to achieve full renewable energy coverage across its retail IBX footprint by 2030. The project also supports the Hong Kong Government’s Climate Action Plan 2050.
Arnold Lau, acting director-general of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, added: “We are delighted to see Equinix deepen its long-standing commitment to Hong Kong with the opening of HK6. Robust computing power, which fuels the development of AI, enables us to achieve high-quality development in innovation and technology — a strategic priority for Hong Kong.”

Equinix's president for Asia-Pacific, Cyrus Adaggra added that: “Hong Kong stands at the forefront of Asia-Pacific’s digital future and the launch of HK6 marks another significant step in our strategy to build the infrastructure that will power the AI era.”
Globally, Equinix operates more than 280 data centres across 77 markets. Its Asia-Pacific portfolio spans 65 facilities across Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore.
