SAP SE has announced that Garuda Indonesia, Indonesia’s national flag carrier, is advancing its digital transformation agenda through RISE with SAP, a guided journey designed to standardise and simplify the move to an integrated enterprise platform.
The update marks a significant milestone in Garuda’s effort to consolidate fragmented business systems and strengthen core operational discipline as it navigates an increasingly competitive airline landscape.
In a sector where margins can be squeezed by fluctuating demand, supply chain variability and cost pressures, Garuda’s strategic choice centres on building a more connected, agile operating model.
By adopting RISE with SAP and moving its core enterprise systems to the cloud, the airline is positioning itself to better meet evolving customer expectations while supporting its longer-term goal of exporting “Indonesian hospitality” on a global scale.
“By modernizing our enterprise core, we are building a more connected, agile, and disciplined organisation, better equipped to manage costs and respond to a dynamic operating environment,” said Thomas Oentoro, deputy CEO at Garuda Indonesia.
His comments underscore the commercial intent behind the programme: not simply technology refreshment, but practical improvements in governance, workflow speed and visibility.
According to SAP, Garuda will integrate key business processes across finance, procurement, supply chain, and selected customer-related operations using SAP Cloud ERP Private.
The phased approach is expected to streamline critical back-office workflows—particularly record-to-report—while enabling embedded analytics and automation to improve transparency across operational performance.
The transformation will also introduce SAP Fiori-based digital experiences, delivering role-based access and more intuitive workflows. Garuda’s deployment, managed within a private managed cloud environment, is intended to provide a secure, resilient and scalable technology foundation while reducing IT complexity.
“As airlines navigate growing operational complexity and rising customer expectations, a modern digital core is essential,” said Sianto Wongjoyo, managing director of SAP Indonesia.
He added that SAP Cloud ERP Private supports a path towards greater enterprise autonomy, with AI-driven automation highlighted as a future enabler for efficiency and adaptability.
As Garuda continues to restore fleet readiness and scale capacity targets, the company expects the modernised foundation to extend beyond finance and procurement—supporting improvements in maintenance and asset management as operational tempo increases.
