The IDC report, Asia/Pacific State of Cloud: Adoption Trends, Challenges, and Preferences, reveals that nearly 90% of enterprises in the Asia/Pacific region deploy significant workloads across multiple public clouds, marking a substantial shift toward multi-cloud strategies.
The trend is robust in India, where 85% of businesses report using true hybrid cloud environments. Additionally, 52% of organizations have implemented at least one edge-to-cloud use case, showcasing a growing confidence in distributed cloud architectures for complex applications.
As artificial intelligence (AI) emerges as a key competitive advantage, hybrid cloud systems are becoming essential for addressing digital sovereignty needs while leveraging the benefits of public cloud innovations. Pushkaraksh Shanbhag from IDC emphasizes that effective orchestration and management of hybrid IT environments will be critical for future cloud adoption, especially for data and AI-driven applications.
The study highlights the diverse range of vendor types considered strategic by enterprises, including hyperscalers, infrastructure OEMs, and specialized managed service providers. This variety suggests that organizations are exploring multiple pathways for cloud adoption and scaling.
Despite this widespread adoption, significant challenges persist. Enterprises frequently struggle with realising the expected value from cloud investments, leading to issues like cost overruns, poor performance, and project delays.
The report underscores the importance of evaluating vendors' ecosystem capabilities, including partnerships and technical delivery, to navigate the complexities of cloud environments effectively.
