Zoomlion's humanoid robot performs sorting tasks on the factory floor

As the manufacturing sector in Asia continues to evolve, the integration of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics is increasingly becoming a focal point for operational efficiency.

The global industrial robotics market is projected to grow significantly, with estimates suggesting a value increase to around USD 1.83 billion by 2031, reflecting a CAGR of 7.32% ([Mordor Intelligence]).

In this context, companies such as Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd. are adapting to these trends by incorporating AI alongside their manufacturing processes.

As automation becomes more prevalent, businesses in sectors like construction and logistics are leveraging AI and robotics to enhance productivity and streamline operations.

For example, in recent years, automated solutions have been adopted for a range of tasks, from assembly to quality inspections. This shift towards intelligent manufacturing is not merely a trend but a response to the growing need for efficiency and flexibility in production systems.

Driving intelligent manufacturing

Zoomlion's strategy involves leveraging a full-chain AI system that integrates smart products, manufacturing operations, and proficient management processes.

This comprehensive approach includes four main areas: AI-enhanced construction machinery, intelligent manufacturing, intelligent management, and embodied-intelligence robots. In its Smart City initiative, Zoomlion has developed 12 smart factories and over 300 production lines, which helps optimise operational efficiency while managing over 100,000 material types.

Embodied-intelligence robotics

The company’s focus on embodied-intelligence robotics underscores a notable shift in operational capabilities. Having launched its humanoid robots in 2024 for tasks such as logistics and quality inspections, Zoomlion supports these robots with a robust training ground and a substantial dataset that enable ongoing improvements in human-robot collaboration.

Integrated into the Zhongke Yungu Embodied Intelligence Platform, these systems facilitate real-time data utilisation and operational efficiency through significant computing resources.

Enhancements in customer service

Zoomlion has enhanced its customer service capacity through the implementation of an AI-powered diagnostic system, which allows for quick identification and troubleshooting of issues, thereby improving service delivery.

Future prospects

Looking ahead, Zoomlion is also exploring specialised robots for various applications, including firefighting and agriculture, which represent further potential for operational improvements across diverse sectors.

For operations heads in Asia, understanding these developments can offer insights into effective strategies that promote efficiency and innovation within their own organisations.
